Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Boyajian orange oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 Tablespoons dry yeast dissolved in ¼ cup warm water
  •  1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. In large bowl, mix olive oil, salt, sugar, water, orange oil and cardamom.
  2. Add yeast and flour.
  3. Knead well by hand or in Cuisinart and let rise 2-3 hours.
  4. Roll into 1 inch long ropes and arrange in rows on greased cookie sheet (Aprox.8)
  5. Using spatula, indent ropes into 1 inch squares
  6. Brush with egg and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven, cool and separate squares onto clean counter
  8. Reduce oven to 250 degrees
  9. Place squares onto 2 baking sheets
  10. Place baking sheets in 250 degree oven and bake until completely dry (about 20 minutes)
  11. Cool and store in plastic bags (Keeps for up to 3 weeks)
  12. Great Served with cheese and olives
